Rebels Of The Dark Chasms

Hi everyone, I think I've given up on Rebels of the Dark Chasms. If anyone could find a path which guarantees a 30% chance of beating the game, even with perfect initial rolls, a walkthrough would be appreciated.

Failing that, any way to complete the game would do.

@C-Star:

Really? Does that mean you completed Rebels Of The Dark Chasms? I didn't, and I'm pretty sure I've exhausted all permutations of choices. How did you do it?

I keep dying in the chase after breaking the alpha female character out of prison, providing that the lava section doesn't get me before that.

By the way, I agree that Hellfire is pretty hard - I only managed to beat it by reverse engineering a solution from the word version.

It's been a while ( about 7 months actually) since I won that, so memory's a bit fuzzy. How do you keep dying? I vaguely remember

I don't remember that well - it's been about a year since I last fell into the lava and made a rage quit.

I remember the junction, but not which one is right. One had a jump that you-know-who cannot do. She just dies. That option is wrong. Anyway, i think what happened is...

This had a great story line. I'm not usually a big fan of bottle necks where you have to do something specific to win, but it does make for a nice challenge in finding those things. Having the unseen mechanic of time limit was an interesting twist as well. The battles were well balanced, which was also nice. 94/100

Am I right that 1 of the 2 paths in the very first section already leads to a delayed failure? Kind of a waste to devote so many sections to what looks like a doomed adventure. Also, the companions feature is interesting, but also a waste because the optimal/true path doesn't actually make use of them....

Great story, however, It was hell to get through ! Of course there’s a great ending if you are willing to restart enough times (because you WILL die) but you need the luck of Loki to get there. I’ve seen plenty of other gamebooks and choose-your-own-adventure but this made everything else look like Skyrim on Novice while you’re here playing Darksouls on steroids. When I finally reached the end, it felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin I was so pumped. Great gamebook, I’m never playing this again.

I’ve spent so much time chewing the dwarf out for dying, I’ve nicknamed him Ratnugget.

So, this was quite an adventure. Neither the best nor the worst on here; in fact, quite far from either! There's a lot of good atmosphere: I particularly liked how the skill checks took your non-human nature into account, or how
companions could force you into doing things the certain way. In general, the encounters felt very appropriate to the location. At the same time, there are also no memorable characters to be found, and few surprises in writing.

There are some unwelcome surprises in gameplay, though, as while the choices directly in front of you usually lead to logically predictable outcomes for once, (in sharp contrast with something like Hellfire/Riders of the Storm, where the opposite of logical action was more often than not the right one), it is only through blind luck or the process of elimination that you are going to discover which path and series of turns in the road will actually let you win. I.e. the most important item needed to win is found in an incredibly contrived manner. Perhaps Chasms of Malice somehow justifies that find, but I doubt it.

There are other encounters where the 150-ref size feels limiting, as your choices seem overly constrained - i.e. that moment early on when our only options after encountering a goblin are to stay and watch or leave, and no way to just attack immediately while he's distracted? Granted, most of them are on paths that are already dead-ends, but they still stick out in the moment. I.e.
