In the diamond key it says on reference 90 that you have 550 gold, but you have 555. Remember you were paid 5 gold on reference 1?

Hello Ulysses Ai. Congratulations with the Diamond Key, an excellent script. But there was on thing that I'm not clear on. It's actual location. It starts in Granborin 'The Sun's Anvil', I'm not sure where that is on Titan. Targaren is the starting city. Then a city called Red reiver. But I just haven't been able to find these on any of the maps. Please could you give us a rough indication on the location of this adventure?

Hi Arguth

I did originally intend to locate the adventure in Titan, but in the end didn't look up place names, instead I just made the name up. That said, there is a reference to Fang in the adventure which I should have removed.
So the answer to your question is that it isn't on Titan at all, or is on some undiscovered continent.

Greetings - Played "The Diamond Key" a few times now.
I've quite liked it and it is an enjoyable one.
Even if every single time I die in the end...

Hello Drakol.

It's no secret that to defeat King Darm at the end you should be aquiring magical items to use against him. If I recall correctly, there are 8 successful endings depending on how you defeat the King, and whether or not Kianmay survives.

Reading through the list of names on the "downloads" page, I was struck by a preponderance of unwitting double-entendres, my two favourite being two books which should surely be in the same series: "The Quest for the Ebony Wand" and "Pit of Peril". This made me consider whether one of the defining characteristics of the Fighting Fantasy Series (as with the God-father of all sword and sorcery- Tolkein) is an amazingly coy attitude to sex. In these frequently gory and even gratuitously violent works, no mention was ever given to the motive force which presumably was responsible for Titan's population (although the illustations of "Vampyres" etc. were somewhat less inhibited).

To this effect, I have to praise the Diamond Key, which managed to be serious and avoid puerility whilst having some element of the erotic in the form of various semi-human lovelies (a theme that seems to resurface in the WWGB series frequently). In particular, strengthening your fire-balls has never been so enjoyable.

Gamebooks shouldn't take themselves too seriously . So some faux sex/violence/breaking the 4th wall, I appreciate.

Hmm, the downloadable version of The Diamond Key seems to indicate that the player starts off with a choice of an extra weapon and an extra item, but the online version doesn't seem to incorporate this?
The online version is slightly cut down from the original for technical reasons.

There is no direct sequel to The Diamond Key, however I do have partially completed stories set in the same world. One of which is based on the Orcs encountered in the mountains as you played tDK.
These will not see the light of day for some time.

Just discovered there is an entry for The Diamond Key on Titannica. Makes me feel kinda famous. My other books don't have entries, but I feel like to create content there about any of my own works would be conceited...

Glen, generally the best ending in a gamebook Is the last paragraph in it. So paragraph 1000 would be the best. (Not 100 percent sure though) I think there are some exceptions in some gamebooks though, so you can't just peek at the last paragraph and spoil it. But the general rule Is Last Paragraph=Best ending.

There seems to be an incorrect route in the (text version, at least) of The Diamond Key. 512 sends you to 552 if you want to ascend, but so far as I can tell, it should be 443.

It's so long since I played this that I have forgotten how I got to the point of survival. I remember replaying until I managed to get through with the love interest alive!

Truly, a great work. I especially liked the several Otherworld sequences.

Skull - non-optimum ending reached
It sure would be nice to be able to start the game up again just before you make the last decision that kills you.
It's certainly a thought. There would be a fair amount of work involved because it's obviously different for each gamebook. I'm not promising anything, and the chances are it won't happen, but I'll bear it in mind. In the meantime, you can of course always save your position using Bookmarks/Favourites.

It had occurred to me in the past that if I'd opted for a purer style of gamebook simulation I could also have introduced a feature to simulate the jamming of your fingers in various different pages to keep your options open. It doesn't really fit with the direction I went in though.
