Return To G15-275
|
I've never been one for game shows (save for the computerized version of deal or no deal) but I certainly wouldn't object to a massive amount of cash. Regarding Fluffles II, I hope this isn't the start of a recurring episode of my first adventure. Seriously though, great work, and can't wait to play!

53 Cash! The arrow clicks rapidly, inexorably slowing down to a fate that cannot be denied. The segments flash by, and your heart leaps as it begins to slow and you estimate anew where it will stop every second that passes. The wheel comes to a stop and makes the final click over, sealing your fate. You have won 1,000 GR! You squeal in delight and jump repeatedly as the crowd claps politely. While the death-bot beeps in disappointment, a gold-clad hottie hands you a cash card and kisses you on the cheek. Jubilant, you leave the stage, and people clap you on the back while you keep a tight hold on the cash card.
75 Prizes! You place a cash card on the glass tray and after a bar of light scans it, the joystick lights up, accompanied by expenditure-enticing music. You manoeuvre the joystick, making the robotic hand move about on the ceiling of the cube. Seeing a teddy bear head sticking up, you aim for it and press the button. The robotic hand descends, and lands on the head of one of the teddy bears. The hand closes and is hoisted up again. The teddy bear remains firm in the grip and is transported over to a chute in one corner while you squeal and jump in delight. The rainbow-coloured teddy bear is dropped into the chute and soon appears in a cavity below the joystick. You scoop it up to establish your possession. You now own a rainbow-coloured teddy bear, which you promptly name Mr Fluffles 2.

I've enjoyed the series so far, but couldn't you have chosen something a little more... uplifting?

Return To G15-275

I realise now that I have kept fans of the WWGB series waiting for about a year for the next episode. It is long and complicated, so it it is taking a while; but it will be a grand adventure featuring mystery, action and romance.
222 (Mystery!) You walk into the shadows and up to the screen, reaching out to touch it. The screen lights up with text. You read curiously. It is some kind of legal document authorising the use of lethal force against any individuals who are not registered guests or authorised employees/assets of the company that move within a three metre radius of a particular set of coordinates. Good to know. Of course you have no idea where the coordinates are on the planetoid. As you wonder, you hear a voice above you, dripping with satisfaction. “Consider yourself…informed,” it says. The alcove is then illuminated by a light, a sickly green glow that emanates from several main-blades held on the ends of multi-jointed arms. The greenish glow plays off the blood-red panels of the death-bot that looms above you, pausing to savour the anticipation of ridding the universe of another organic. You panic and try to run, but with a flash one of your legs is severed and you crash to the ground with a cry of pain. The death-bot steps closer, and begins to chop you finely.
YOUR ADVENTURE ENDS HERE
202 (Action!) You swim gently, trying to stay low. You are confident in your recollection of where the entrance lies. You no longer feel the tentacles sweeping the water and start to feel for the edge of the opening. Your hands knock against something, but instead of the hard polymer of the imitation cavern, it is rubbery.. The tentacle bursts into action and wraps around you. You are wrenched through the water and other tentacles seize you. You squirm and struggle, trying to reach your lasersword, but the beast pulls you in several different directions and painfully wrenches you apart. As your awareness fades you realise that the monster outwitted you by leaving a tentacle to guard the exit. You spend your last moments wondering at the intelligence lingering in the heart of such a monstrous beast.
YOUR ADVENTURE ENDS HERE
249 (Romance <3 !) You set down the glass and turn to the blue-skinned lovely. “How’s that, babe?” you say with a sultry smile. For years to come patrons at the bar are able to see this look since the poison kills you so rapidly your body stiffens in moments. You are glazed and put on a stool in the corner for all to see. At long last you are famous.

Matt:
I think the webmaster is really busy at the moment, so I'll reply to say you can send any gamebooks you have written to the email address through the 'contact' link above. It will almost certainly be put on the downloads page. An online version may be created at the webmasters discretion. And illustrations are awesome. |

I'm Writing A Gamebook
|
Hello. Great site. I've been coming here frequently of late. I read these books growing up and had a collection of over 20, which I regrettably gave away in my late teens.
I am writing my own FF complete with illustrations and was wondering how much trouble it would be to post it here when I finish?
I have a Mac and though competent, am not overly computer savvy. |
|
Thanks for the kind words, and I see that Ulysses has answered your question exactly how I would have done. |

Riders Of The Storm
|
There seems to be a bug with Riders of the storm. After difeating the night demon, the program returns you to the set of clearings with the three random exits.
|
I've looked into it and I don't think it's a bug - I think it's the result of modifying the URL by hand.
In a similar area, I have just fixed the Metal Sentinel problem in Hellfire mentioned by Ex a while back. And now that the mechanism exists to do this, completing Hellfire takes you automatically into Riders Of The Storm. |

The Dead World
|
Ulysses: Close, but no cigar :-) I reduced the font to 8, reformatted the text in columns and removed a few empty lines. The result is a reduction from 183 to 74 pages. Printed double sided this results in 37 actual sheets of paper. Which is exactly two more than my stapler can handle so I use a plastic binding strip. Its draft but on first quality paper otherwise my printer jams, which is something you really want to avoid when printed double sided!
The result looks very good and professional, and I'm sure it'll last a long as a real book. The quality of your work deserves it.

I just finished Planet of the Spiders. What a game. And what a wonderfull twist right in the middle, which I failed to notice about four times. It would appear that good reading is an art in itself :-) Thanks Ulysses. Meanwhile The Golden Crate is printing. I wonder how many pages my stapler can handle...

hi guys,
I just found this site, as a player of fighting fantasy gamebooks for many years I just want to say how great I think these seperate stories are. having always played the traditional way with dice and a pencil I think the work done here is excellent.
I really enjoyed The black lobster, and I thought the idea of using an "average joe" type protagonist was superb.
I have always enjoyed the fighting fantasy stories ( I still am able to recount each of the 400 paragraphs from island of the undead my favorite game book- my friends used to say the first sentance and i could tell them wht happens in the paragraph for them by memory) and this site is great! |

Bert:
I asked the webmaster not to make the text version available for download until after the online version has been available for some time. This was so that people wouldn't be tempted to read the text version first and thus miss out on playing the story fresh in the online version (which I think is better); and also so people could not cheat by looking at the text version when they encountered difficulty.
That said, it has probably been long enough now for The Dead World to appear on the downloads page, especially since The Dead World is really just a brief stopover in the series and not that impressive. Mr Webmaster, can you put the text copy on the Downloads page, please?
|
|
Yes, fair enough. It's there now. |

The Dead World

Ulysses:
I missed The Dead World, because it is available on-line only. Is it possible to make a downloadable copy available as well? I never play on-line, I print the adventure and play it as a book. With 7 episodes of this quality it's quite an epic undertaking of yours!
Yes, 29 guestbooks would be overdoing it. I was more thinking about one questbook with (at least) 29 separate topics. Another good option would be a search facility. That would fix the problems too for it would allow one to quickly find all messages relating to a single advanture.
Personally I don't use walkthroughs. If I can't solve the adventure in the normal way I'll "take the book apart" until I see what I was supposed to do. Of course I haven't played one of your longer adventures yet so I reserve the right to change my mind about walkthroughs in the future :-)

The Dead World
|
Bert:
The order is as you listed with one exception: After Contractual Obligation comes The Dead World. Return to G15-275 is Episode 7 which is currently under development.
The Diamond Key is stand-alone.
It has been suggested before to have individual guestbooks for each gamebook. I can't recall the webmaster commenting on this suggestion individually, but as things stand now that would mean having 29 guestbooks, which is a rather clumsy way to handle things. A better solution would be to convince authors to provide walkthroughs for the Downloads section. I certainly write walkthroughs for each of my adventures; then I print them out and lock them in a chest in my basement.

The Dead World
|
Ulysses, this appears to be the playing order: Wrong way go back - Planet of the Spiders - Golden crate - Hypertrout - Contractual obligations. The last one links to Return to G15-275 which I cannot find, so this one is perhaps not completed yet?
And then there's The diamond key which appears to be standalone. Correct?
In other news: I absolutely love this website but finding something in the guestbook is a pain. It would be great if each gamebook would have it's own section.
