Hi, has anybody read 'The Curse of Drumer' and 'Below Zero Point' on the Fighting Fantasy Website (supported by Wizard Books rep. Dave Holt)? What do they think to them?
In BZP, my heart missed a beat when reading entry '328' - Robert D must be a fellow fan of 'Pavane'. It's alternate history, set in 1968 where the Spanish Armada succeeded and England remained a Catholic nation. He made a subtle tribute to 'The Signaller' story there!
Roleplaying figurines and Quasar also make cameo appearances in the BZP adventure.
I remember reading a 'Rebel Planet' review on Amazon; he's obviously a huge SF fan. In the past he mentioned great disappointment at FF community's lack of interest in SF titles, prompting him to create an SF gamebook of his own.
'The Curse of Drumer' is testimonious to Robert's most favourite gamebook: 'House of Hell'! I recently managed to get in touch with him and discuss his online writing further. RD gave little away, but he's planning a second outing for the Sean Calibre Case Files. Furthermore, Prison of Pestilence will be extended to a trilogy - he's dusted down POP and sent it off to Dave Holt (who received it, but has yet to post it on-site). This adventure - along with Snakeland Scorpion - was originally posted on Mark J Popp's FF site in 2000. Check Titanicca for further details.
He's also considering another sci-fi themed adventure...but this is being kept tightly under-wraps. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for polished gems 'Prison of Pestilence' and 'Snakeland Scorpion' on the Official FF Website.
I assume you mean the safe in the town that you can access with the metallic controller with blue and orange buttons. It opens with a sequence of three buttons, so there are only 8 possible combinations. I don't think there is anywhere to discover the combination, but it isn't too hard to figure out. But as you may have discovered, after some wrong combinations you can start again, after others you are thrown out.
END SPOILER
In The Planet of the Spiders you could take basic training in one of a number of weapons. If you did, you can now take advanced training for the same weapon in The Golden Crate, or basic training in another weapon.
just wondering how do I figure out the combination to the safe in GC? I wasn't fully awake here so i'm probably retrying a sequence over and over again haha
END SPOILER
also, I see there are the advanced courses in the dojo, but how can I take them? there is only 1 chance to take 1 lesson as far as I know
Because 2^6 = 64 But I just checked my notes and I see now that I didn't use every possible combination of outcomes. It's just 38 references. In the game you face a number of rounds and either win or lose each round. The maximum number of rounds you can participate in is 6, but of course it is possible to win or lose the game after just 3 rounds depending on your choices.
If you're still asking why, it's because there is a major bonus available at the end if you win, so I wanted the game to be hard, or at least complicated.
Thanks for your interest. I haven't worked on it for a while since I've been busy with work, study and life in general. But I did say it might appear early next year and that could still happen. I've nearly finished the main block of writing, but I have decided on several changes in the course of writing that will mean I need to revise some sections to make it consistent and improve the overall story. That shouldn't take long as soon as I am able to give some time to it. In total now it is 600 references because I added a 64-reference game of Slogrlokrolk.
Ulysses, just curious as to the status of your book. I haven't been on hear recently, so forgive me if I missed something, but I was wondering how you're faring.
You still have one hour to get off. I just did a test run and can confirm if you do everything right you still escape in time. There are a couple of points where the book goes straight to the bad end if you have exausted any posibility to escape; I would guess you are encounting it that way.
hey ulysses, just wondering how long do you have to get off the ship in wwgb? cause with the new system of multiple references I died at 45 minutes instead of the 1 hour I remember I had
For those of you who don't know about Destiny Quest (http://www.destiny-quest.com/), it is a great gamebook that you should buy and enjoy.
For those of you who are lucky enough to have read Destiny Quest, there is some good news hinting at more Destiny Quest in the future http://virtualfantasies.blogspot.com/2011/07/somethings-up-in-land-of-destiny-quest.html.
Since you mention the manual you must have either found it or know that you need to. If you have the manual, make sure you read it at the opportune time by clicking USE when the knowledge is required. If you don't think you are encountering such an opportunity, then you might be missing something that would give you 'access' (hint, hint) to such an opportunity. If you haven't found the manual yet, then you need to USE the other ID you found in the nightclub in the right place at the right time.
I have been playing 'Wrong Way, Go back' now for a couple of hours. Can someone help me get the maintenance manual? I can get to the ship, but dont know how to fly it, and I think it might be something to do with the parent-bot...
@ John No, by interactive fiction I simply mean gamebook style writing. I don't have any programming expertise (Didn't even know about TADS until I looked it up.)
The ship you are trying to escape on belongs to the first robot. You need to get it to allow you to escape. So don't blast the robot. Go back earlier in the Adventure and do things differently to get other options.
As much as the sections for destroying things are nice, you actually don't want to destroy everything. That book is one of the harder ones to figure out, congratulations to you if you manage it without reading the download.
interactive finction? That wouldn't happen to be in inform or tads? I'd love to give it a shot. If you don't write in either of those languages, could you point me to an interpretter? I'm a major fan of if, so would be glad to know of anything you've wrote.
