Hi, your site is excellent. What a great idea to put amateur gamebooks online and in such an easy way to play and enjoy. I've been a fan of Fighting Fantasy for years and I'm am a budding writer myself and would love it for my adventures to go online for other people to enjoy, I just haven't got the first idea how to do it. Is your site open to other ameteur writers stories?
If you have written any complete gamebooks, by all means send them to me. I'll be happy to put them on the downloads page and/or consider adapting them for online play. This goes for anyone else too.

A very nifty site you've got here. Did you know that it's completely accessible to blind people? Well, it is! You're likely to see more of them dropping in now that the word has reached the Blindgamers list. Also, I've put a note about the site in the issue of Audyssey I just published. Number 38 should be posted to various web sites soon including the homepage at:
http://www.audysseymagazine.org
Thanks ever so much for helping blind people experience these kind of adventures. I was lucky enough to have a father who loved reading and playing the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks with me, but other blind people aren't so fortunate. Keep up the excellent work.

Editor of Audyssey

What can I say?

What a great site.

I have just found it today whilst browsing and have done no work since.

The text really takes you into your worlds.

Excellent work!!

Lee :)

Hey, can we expect more books? I love your site.
Possibly, but I've no immediate plans. And thanks.

FBook is excellent. I like all the adventures and it is so easy to play them online.

Ever consider making Fbook adventures downloadable for play offline, or distributing the program itself so that others can adapt/write gamebooks with it? It's quite impressive.
Thanks Chris.

Without going into details, making them downloadable would take more time than I have available at the moment. It isn't straightforward.

Regarding others adapting gamebooks - as I said in response to the same question from 'robsterman' last year:

The thought did occur to me, but the game language is pretty low-level and the amount of people with both gamebook writing and software skills is probably very small. Writing a tutorial for such a small group didn't seem worth the effort.

Hello again,

I really don't mean to pester you but I'm enjoying this site too much not to ask. I hope, regardless of your response, that you will take that as the compliment it is intended to be.

I just wanted to take my previous inquiry one step further and ask as to whether you would consider burning the fbook adapted adventures onto CD. Although I understand you couldn't charge for the adventures themselves, I would certainly be willing to pay for the time, cost of shipping and material, and use of the fbook program.

Anyhow, just thought I'd ask. I hope the fbook site continues to grow.
That's OK. I'll bear it in mind but realistically it's very unlikely to happen.

Many thanks, superbly captures the essence of the original FFs.

Only complaint is you can't cheat! ;oP

Hi again, I really like this site and have completed "Lair of the Troglodytes", "Midnight Deep" and "House of Horror" (though I had to cheat by downloading the original Word document for that one).

However, I seem to have fallen over a bug in Outsider. I was fighting Fiorentino when he drank one of his healing potions, and since he was giving me a hard time I tried drinking some of my own, but the game got into a state where nothing but the Adventure Sheet was displayed on the screen.
Thank you for spotting this bug. I've put in a workaround which is to disable the USE button in this situation, but I will have a think about a better solution.

Playing with the fbook software makes things a lot more
difficult since you never get any hint about alternative
ways which are dependent on carrying some special item. I've
played House of Horror but finally gave up the fbook system
and tried the text file. Having the pure text was actually
a helping hand in this adventure.
Yes, the online version is often harder for this reason. But I think it makes more sense for the text not to mention items that the central character has no knowledge of.

Hi!

I just wanted to know wherther any other girls play fighting fantasy except me and my sister! Anyone?

I've completed the book The house of hell twice, but The house of horror is really hard. I've only just found this site, but i think its gr8!

Hi, I've just finished Bodies In The Docks. (On my first go, albeit I was lucky to get Skill 12 and even so I only had 1 Stamina at the end!)
Anyway, I was just wondering: You know how Lair Of The Troglodytes has several endings, ranging from kinda-ok to "Go me!"? Do any of the other adventures have multiple endings?
Outsider has about half a dozen fairly positive endings, but only one (or maybe two) 'best' ending(s) which are well worth tracking down. Incidentally, dying in the sewer many years later is not one of the 'best' endings.

And "Killed by a dragon." and "Killed by a manticore." do not count as different endings, before some smart-alec points it out! :-)

Hi there. I've just been thinking about the rules for fighting more than one opponent - are you supposed to roll two separate Attack Strengths for yourself in each round (one for each monster)? Unfortunately I don't have an original gamebook to hand so I cannot check (and could be wrong).
I don't have a gamebook to hand either, but I've looked around the amateur ones and there are examples of both interpretations.

Great site! I've been addicted the last few days. I've played Bodies in the Docks, House of Horror, Outsider and Midnight Deep. Outsider was my favourite - written with wit and style, and it was fun to see the many possible endings.

I used to cheat a lot with the FF books, and at first I thought it wasn't possible to cheat with this program, but I have found a way to do so. ;) What makes it harder online is when you need a certain item or have to have done something to progress further, the text doesn't give you any clues as to what it should be. More like real life I suppose!

I've got a little question for the creator of this awesome program.

I completely respect your decision not to implement using LUCK in combat. However I must admit I am a little curious as to why you made this decision. I would guess that It would probably mean more programming for you and just make things more complicated.

Well, if you ever find the time, it would be awesome to use luck in fights. It would certainly make things a bit easier in some FF Books.

Just a suggestion.

Etienne
Your guess is correct. I just saw it as more trouble than it was worth - I personally never bothered to use LUCK in combat. But several other people as well as you have said that they miss its absence here.

Hi again,

I've looked everywhere for your name (I'm talking about the person who wrote this program) but could not find it anywhere. So I will refer to you as FFBC (FF BOOK Creator).

FFBC, I've checked here and there on the net and, unless I'm mistaken, the Lone Wolf books are available now online, free of charge.

I was wondering if you had any future plan of implementing other amateur ff books or the Lone Wolf series.

I know I'm repeating myself, but this program really is great. It was good to relive the gamebooks experience, without having so much as the opportunity to cheat.

Etienne
I don't really have any plans.

Lone Wolf is out of the question. There may be more FF, or there may not. It depends on the amount of spare time I get and the supply of amateur gamebooks. There are not that many more around with contactable authors and simple enough rules.

But thank you very much for your (repeated) kind words.

FFBC, I just read your reply. I've looked around a bit and I've found this link:

http://www.advancedfightingfantasy.com/amateur1.htm

It has a couple of amateur stories which you do not have yet. You probably already knew about it, but still I thought It might help you out.

Etienne
I did know about this, but thanks for mentioning it anyway.
