I am writing a small (not sure how long its gonna be, but small) book based on the game Lord of The Rings: The Third Age. While the characters are the same, I plan a flexible story. I was wondering, would you put it on your site when my book is done? I will send it to you if you tell me your e-mail address.
Assuming it's a gamebook that you're writing, then I would be happy to put it on the downloads page once it is completed, especially if it is of comparable quality to those already there. Whether I would be prepared to adapt it to the online format depends on various factors: how good it is (in my opinion), how close its rules are to the standard Fighting Fantasy rules and how much spare time I get.
You can use the 'contact' link to send it to me.
Those who are interested in the concept of a Lord Of The Rings gamebook might like to try this one (written by Robert LaVallie):
Whether you think it is any good is up to you, but it doesnt deviate from Fighting Fantasy rules, apart from the "Travelling Rule" where you may lose STAMINA from travel-weariness, and have to eat so much food per day, with a penalty of 3 STAMINA if you dont. I very much hope you will put it on the downloads page, as this site is the only way it can become available to anyone.
I think that the Sorcery books had this rule.

Plus, I MIGHT add a CORRUPTION stat to those who
SPOILER
spoiler choose to use the Ring
END SPOILER
. And The Two Towers was a little too linear for me, which is why I am writing this one to a flexible storyline.

It isnt finsished yet, I havent even got to the Fellowship setting out. Must go do some more.

OK, I can only allow so much flexibility with Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. Anyone here interested? If so, say what you would like to be able to do in my book. So far you can:
SPOILER
Stay at Minas Tirith and be called to war at Helm's Deep, go to Rivendell and use the Ring of Power to try and overthrow Sauron, go to Rivendell and set out with the Fellowship
END SPOILER
Matt Sat Jan 8 18:12:49 2005
As to its length, it is currently 30 paragraphs and I have got as far as(depending on which route you take)
SPOILER
Helm's Deep(called to war by Rohan) Helm's Deep(journeying back to Minas Tirith when you choose to use the Ring) Eregion(setting out with the Fellowship to destroy the Ring)
END SPOILER

The 'Travelling Rule' is very complicated in the Sorcery! books:
If you don't eat a meal each day, you lose 2 STAMINA If you dont sleep each night you lose 3 STAMINA (I think)
However, the software on this site, probably doesn't support it.
The FF books where you travel long distances are relly good fun; travelling rule just makes them more intresting.

Midnight Deep is cool, I read it and got as far as the city of Tempest, then my LUCK points ran out. As for the items, when do you actually use any of them?
And LOTR TTA will have you travelling a lot if you want to, for any who are interested. (Someone must be!)

Matt - LOTR gamebook
Just my opinion of course, but I would have thought LOTR was more suited to a Sourcery style epic. It's a big book and they cut a lot out to fit it into three long films. You may find you don't do it justice in 30 paragraphs...
Perhaps you should split it into three gamebooks of 400 (even 500?) paragraphs?
Eliot Ball Thu Jan 13 14:30:55 2005
400 to 500 paragraph gamebooks take a very long time to finish. if you work really hard on a gamebook you can (possibly) finish it in a month, but the normal time is 4 to 6 months. making 3 books would mean 1500 paragraphs, wihch at 10 a day is just under half the year (and that is at 10 paraghraphs every single day, including weekends). Sorcery! is an amasing epic, but would take a really long time to write.
Matt Sat Jan 15 08:20:32 2005
Valid opinion, but I have tried to write long books before - after a while, I forgot about them. Plus, the game The Third Age is built to combine three films into one, so I think the book should too. And dont worry - it will be, in fact already is, much longer than 30 paragraphs. Anyway, the shortest route skips out practically all of the Fellowship, although it may not be very rewarding to choose that route.

Hey guys, do any of you know how to make a gamebook? Just wondering./ I have some great ideas, but I can't write them into gamebooks because I don't know how.
Matt Tue Feb 1 07:05:46 2005
What do you mean? I do it by writing paragraph 1, then writing the choices to go to page 2, 3, 4, etc. Then I jumble the paragraphs up at the end.
> Hey guys, do any of you know how to make a gamebook? Just wonderomg./ I have some great ideas, but I can't write them into gamebooks because I don't know how.
Yes. First of all, think up a plot for your book: if you don't do this, you find yourself wondering what to do next, and it takes a lot longer to finish. Then, write your ideas down. edit thgem until you have the BACKGROUND for your book. Write the rules, then you will know what penalties to make, and how to make fights. (NOTE you do not have to do this, if you are sticking to FF rules) Then flowchart the book, so that you know just what will happen where. then, start writing your adventure!
TIPS: 1. Don't write too much all the time: you will get bored very quickly (I do about an hour a day, but I shouldn't do any more!). 2. Make all your ideas your own: an adventure that is another book rewritten, is boring. 3. Makew the plot interesting: no boring tunnels with no different routes and nothing to do.
That website with the software on it is useless. It's in a foreing language! It looks cool (the picture at the bottom, anyway), though. I that what you got on this site?
By the way, That adventure I was writing, I have stopped it now, because it wasn't hanging together properly. I have started another one where you climb a mountain, but it follows a system like Arimies of Death - not the normal FF rules. Would it work on this website?
No, the ADVELH software is nothing to do with this site, and it appears to be quite highly regarded. If you're frightened of a bit of French you needn't worry, the programme itself has an English version as the picture shows.
I don't know the rules of Armies Of Death, so I can't say whether it would work here or not.
Matt Mon Feb 7 06:59:17 2005
Armies of Death has the same combat rules, but you would have a number representing the people in your army. Then if you were in a battle you would roll a dice against a battle table, and it would tell you how many people were killed.
Eliot Thu Feb 10 15:02:52 2005
Yes, I think that's right.
As described, it sounds fairly straightforward.
Eliot Fri Feb 18 14:52:41 2005
How are you doing whith that Lord of the rings game book, Matt. Is it going to be very long? (100 references should suite it fairly well - bellow that number is quite short)
Matt Sat Feb 19 08:04:59 2005
Been slack for a while. I'm going to do some more now. I'm on paragraph 87, in which your character is on Rohan's West Border. The only problem is, one successful path through the book is shorter than the other - something I will do differently if I do a different book in future.
