Robert, I hear you. Re-reading these books brings back some wonderful 80's nostalgia. Reading City of Thieves with pouring rain outside, Dead of Night at night...
speaking of which, I think some titles have sadly been lost to time and may never be reprinted. There was a start on coverting the Sorcery! series to the IPhone, and Creature of Havoc is also available. I'd actually like a company to convert the best twenty or so titles and place them on one disc for the PC - at least this would be accessible to most.

Back in the 80's, for me one of the fondest aspects to collecting FF was going in to the local bookshop...and seeing a brand new title on the shelf. Just couldn't beat that feeling of excitement!

Does anybody know if gamebooks such as 'Dead of Night' and 'Legend of the Shadow Warriors' are being republished? Or, are they going to be published on Kindle?

Is Simon Chapman any relation to Andrew Chapman?

Yes, there was a ninja in Deathtrap Dungeon, one of the competitors.

There was a ninja in Deathtrap Dungeon? I don't know if that's the one though.

Whoops - one more thing! One question for Simon if around. I figured out that the scenes the Gem warrior remembers are moments from various FF books, but what about the ninja? I don't recall that one.

The Word Fell Silent
The Word Fell Silent is very interesting! Too bad I'm not so great with theology or history.

A Strange Week For King Melchion The Despicable
Jordan, I also enjoyed that one. I managed to find the ultra quick route on the first try, where you become the King. No female companion, but hey, who needs love when you have everything else on hand?

Also really liked the revamped Gem Runner, which was actually better than most of the other Windhammer entries. Curious as to why the author didn't submit this version, but it was great to play and I'd love to see more of this character. The new Trivia section with all the Gems was very interesting. If it was expanded to 400 entries and tweaked to fit FF it could be published, as I've never seen this idea before.

Looking forward to trying The Word Fell Silent!

The Word Fell Silent
The Word Fell Silent

Kieran Coghlan's biblical gamebook is now ready.

Judea groans under the rule of the Roman Empire, its king, Herod Agrippa II, nothing more than a puppet for the Roman governor. Some demand action against the Romans, others believe it a mistake to antagonise their masters. And there is turmoil between the different Jewish sects and with the new religion that has grown recently, spreading throughout the Roman World and threatening the Jewish faith: Christianity.

Like the other three gamebooks added recently, it has multiple paths to success. In this case there are three different sects you can belong to, and three different companions you can encounter, so if you feel like a challenge, you could try to complete it for all nine possible combinations.

A Strange Week For King Melchion The Despicable
Melchian was a great gamebook, thanks for writing and submitgting it, and thanks for allowing Andy to put it up online. I think I got the best ending, the one where the two of you are happy no matter what. Is that the best one, or should I try and play around with that recipe puzzle? *Shudders. I tried it at first, kinda difficult. Is there major differences based on whether you decide to fight the spell as an enchantment or an allusion? Thanks in advance.

Gamebooks To Download

Two more additions to the downloads page :

Grisly Death by Stacey Paulson, a murder mystery set in London.
Gem Runner by Simon Chapman. An earlier version of this was an entry in the recent Windhammer competition.

Thanks very much to the authors for submitting them.

Hi, just wanted to say I love the stories and what you're doing. thanks to everyone who is involved.

About a year ago I got inspired to create a tablet and smartphone gamebook with magic card combat elements. The project has been progressing since then and I've completed most of the coding and graphics. Next step is doing the music and the story writing. I have a music studio, but I'm not much of a writer so I am looking for someone to collaborate with, a writer for hire. If anyone is interested please get in touch.. and any feedback is appreciated.

you can see the project here http://www.atticsquad.com/games

A Strange Week For King Melchion The Despicable
A Strange Week For King Melchion The Despicable

Another gamebook ready for online play.

In the magical land of Generica, a wondrous region ruled by the harsh and not particularly fair King Melchion the Despicable, you are Davor, a humble wizard trying to make his way in life. Usually you spend your time ridding cellars of rats or casting love enchantments for pimply teens. But today you are to be hired by a client with a very different problem indeed.

This is Kieran Coghlan's entry to this year's Windhammer competition. If you want to know what Stuart Lloyd thinks of it then go here : http://virtualfantasies.blogspot.com/2011/11/windhammer-competition-review-part-3.html. It's probably best to play it first though.

@ Rhubarbcrumble,

It was 'To the Moon and Back' by Savage Garden, one of Stephen Hand's favourite songs (Dead of Night). He wanted to style a sci-fi adventure around the song lyrics: 'Overdrive' was the working title, although I might be wrong about this - anybody reading this is much the wiser, please let us know :)

p.s Since 'Curse of the Mummy' - the last FF gamebook under Puffin publication - was released in 1996, and original release date of the controversial 'Bloodbones' would have followed, Stephen didn't get the chance to write it.

Sharkbait's Revenge
I've found a minor bug with Sharkbait: If you don't have your lucky doubloon, the game still lets you click on the 'buy the map' section on board the ship, effectively letting you have it for free.
Thanks for pointing this out. If it was reference 30 then I believe I have fixed it.

Sharkbait's Revenge
Thanks for the feedback, Jordan! For increasing your attack strength, make sure that if you get a weapon you click use for it or you will get a -2 penalty in combat. The shield increases your attack strength by 1 and the leather armour can protect you against some attacks. You can buy all of these from the armourer. Read the spoiler if you want to know how to defeat the ninja without fighting him:

Sharkbait's Revenge
Excellent gamebook, Stewart. Just got one question. I've restarted a few times when my skill is low. Is there any way that your skill rises above 9? I've done everything but am having trouble defeating the ninja. Is there an item that might come into use? Thanks.

Sharkbait's Revenge

Stuart Lloyd's Windhammer 2010 competition-winning gamebook is now ready for online play.

The ship is now sinking fast. The rest of the crew are on the lifeboats heading to the island. You notice that they haven't left you one. They see you as responsible for causing this disaster and if they catch you on the island they will probably skin you alive. However, the island is the only escape you've got...
