Tales From The Bird Islands Development

I'm busy with other things as well, but chances are that sooner or later I'll be back to this, just to put a bow on it, if nobody else does it before. What I love of Fighting Fantasy Project is that it always played the slow but sure game. |

Bodies In The Docks
|
I run this gamebook as an RPG adventure various times during these last years, but this time I had a surprise: the players actually asked me a copy of a map of Portsmouth (as it was in the 20s), as it is mentioned in the game. Fair enough, I thought, and, with the help of internet, I quickly summoned it. I was greatly surprised to see that the docks in Protsmouth do not go directly into the ocean, but they go into a river that goes into the ocean through some kind of lock (have a look at it: https://maps.francisfrith.com/pop/portsmouth-1919_pop809907.png) This way the sea born creatures have to queue with all other boats to get access to the docks through the locks!!! Is this going to spoil all narrative? How can I explain it in a meaningful way? |

Bodies In The Docks
|
I am using this gamebook as a basis for a RPG adventure (it's not the first time), but this time the players asked me a map of Portsmouth as mentioned in the text. Fair enough, I thought and I found on line a map of Portsmouth dated 1919 (a century ago!) and I was very surprised when I realized the the port (and docks) of Portsmouth isn't directly open to the ocean! They are rather on a river (on the back side of Portsmouth, to make it easy) and that river is connected to the ocean through a key. I think this may impact the action in this adventure, as the lovecraftian fish-heads will have to queue wit merchant boats outside the key until they are allowed to pass... what do you think? |

Sweet subject matter! Rather short and it took a heap of goes to get all the way through, but hugely entertaining |

A Knight's Trial
|
I have enjoyed the game but have yet to win. It's very frustrating and after 20 tries I am moving on. Good game but, c'mon, you should make an easier path to slay dragon. After failing a number of times, I can guess the story but it sucks that i can't experience the win. I have tried repeatedly bit to no avail. And not because of bad decision. I have done every decision and still no victory. You have to make it possible for someone to win. |

Possible, but getting the right path can be challenging and depends on luck. LUCK, combat skill, and pure luck if your LUCK fails.
Face your fears and oppose authority trying to set you on the right path Follow clues If you're unlucky, a gamble might give you a chance at winning |

In The Footsteps Of A Hero

Entertaining, and very well written - although way too short (and easily completed) for a true FF gamebook. None the less, reminded me of why I loved FF all those years ago |

Hello, any ideas of how I can manage, converting this gamecock into a RPG adventure, the fact that the docks of Portsmouth are not on the ocean? I need some help. |

The Trial Of Allibor's Tomb

An awesome adventure, that I've just completed (on like my 50th attempt or so). Gripping, brilliantly written and almost as cunningly devious as some of the original FF Gamebooks - like Deathtrap Dungeon. Loved it |

Nye's Song
|
I have to say I love the premise of this one, it's really creative the world it builds and the atmosphere created is great but what's the deal with the ending? You do everything right then when you get into the tank you just click test this and test that and die! I've gotten to the tank with maximum stamina without losing a single man and I just keep dying and I have absolutely no control over it! I don't know what the Endurance gunners skill is, I don't know how many hits the Endurance can take and no decision or action I take influences the end.
That (major) gripe aside it's really interesting to have men as well as skill and stamina and this is a very well though out and executed RPG. |

Nye's Song
|
I have to say I love the premise and atmosphere of this story. One of its great strengths is its original storyline and I particularly like having a platoon of men (I had no problem figuring out the numbers of men) under my command, although it means a perfectionist like me has to run through the whole story repeatedly so I didn't lose a single man. Having said that I think Robster and bluejuice195 have some fair points in that it was thoroughly enjoyable until you get to the bit where you just click test skill for some gunners (although you don't know their skill) and then test skill for some Kali spectre's (although you don't know how many hits the Endurance can take) until you die and while Mowen's comments are helpful in completing the adventure they make no sense at the time you come to that portion of the gamebook.
That annoyance aside I hugely enjoyed this adventure and hope to see more of the same again, ideally involving Captan Nye and his crew. |
