Very late reply to Half Pint: a personal favourite monster of mine is, oddly enough, from Legend of the Shadow Warriors...the Mandrake!
Glad you enjoyed APIAS bluejuice915, sorry you didn't enjoy the items gameplay mechanic. Some ideas work, others don't, and a few can always be improved. However, it's also down to personal taste of the player, but thanks for your honesty.
Great gameplay. Fictionality in a modern setting is always a refreshing change. It was also nice to have a second character involved. The slight monotony of obtaining items to "release" Liches is annoying, but otherwise the gameplay is fun. Grade: 99
is safe. A fairly good game overall. Gameplay was slightly clunky, and the lack of battles was a little disappointing. But, a fairly good play for choices. Grade: 92
When I write gamebooks I use Libro Game Creator 3 http://www.matteoporopat.com/librogame/libro-game-creator-3/ - English is part of the supported languages, if you were in doubt. It is donationware and supports up to 999 paragraphs.
At one point in the story the character finds a pendant that allows the player to locate secret passageways when used, achieved by adding 20 to any reference when it begins with the phrase "You find yourself..." Reference 213 commences with "You reach...", but adding 20 leads the player to a paragraph that states a secret door has been found, thereby allowing game progression. It is unknown as to whether this was an error or Jackson's deliberate attempt to encourage lateral thinking - just as the bestial protagonist is forced to do within the narrative.
As for the reference in HoH, well it's actually in my own HoP and it's just that the creature himself does appear later on and is even named.
