Wrong Way Go Back
Gamebook Freak:

If this is a question about Wrong Way Go Back, then the location of the club is given somewhere in the text. You just need to read more carefully.

The Diamond Key
In the diamond key it says on reference 90 that you have 550 gold, but you have 555. Remember you were paid 5 gold on reference 1?

Thanks for the updates, Wayne. On a different note, I've found this site regarding the advanced fighting fantasy system.

I've only just found it, but its an interesting rewrite.

General Chat
After reading the short answer to the last question on the FAQ, I was wondering if there is any value at all in providing on the downloads page a 'gamebook submission template', where authors can cut and paste their text into the body of some of the code. Obviously the code that drives the gamebook engine would not be included. The purpose of this would be to make things easier for the webmaster, since the filled-in template could then be pasted as a whole into to rest of the code, and some adjustments made. In addition to identifying passages, the template could alow the assignment of variables to items, and changes in value to variables such as gold and STAMINA, etc.

Of course some hopeful author could go to the trouble of preparing their work for adaption and never end up seeing it adapted, but that's what disclaimers are for...
Not really. Providing a list of objects, or a heads-up regarding any unusual game mechanics - as you do - is very helpful, beyond that it's getting into the realm of asking the author to double as a programmer (and worse, a programmer using a very low-level language that I made up). Worth bearing in mind is the fact that there already are websites that offer this kind of thing, and the take-up is disappointing. I don't see any reason why there'd be any more enthusiasm for the idea here.

If time was unlimited, I think I would prefer to set up some sort of mechanism where people could create online gamebooks without having to resort to code at all. However, to get to that stage would represent a colossal amount of work, with no guarantees that it would ever get much use.

Thank you to both Stuart and Andrew.

I am glad you are both enjoy the AFF 2nd Ed re-write.

The rule set I have presented on the site are currently being exstensivley play tested with a group of adult RP'ers. We rolled up characters using the new 2nd rules and are playing throuhg all the campaigns (currently each Monday evening).

We are up to Blacksand! at the moment.

The group has 5 adult RP'ers, aged between 25-50. Between us there is well over 100 years worth or role playing experiance spread across more RP'ing systems than I care to count.

The group are acting as a kind of "critical review" of the 2nd Ed rules as you see them on the site.

We just had our first "leveling up" exercise the other day, which proved interesting. Once the process is done I am sure we will have many more updates to the site.

We are also working on our uploading to the site soon our "Demi-God player character system", I wrote it compleltly from scratch for the 8th adventure which see's players transfer to the elemental and demonic planes! However it needs to be fully over hauled before being ready for public consumption.

I am delighted you guys have had some fun reading the site. To be houesnt, when I put it up a couple of months ago I really did not expect anyone to find it, I did not even think anyone was even playing this system any more.

I happily will expect any input, feedback, comments you have!

I can be contacted through the web site: craigandadam@advancedfightingfantasy.co.uk

Are you aware that the mass battle section doesn't exist on your website? And how close to the original rules is it?

Yes indeed :)

Quite aware the Mass Battle section is not up yet.

You have to remember this is a kind of almost total overhaul of the AFF system based on 3 years worth of work, and its only a two person job :) Getting it all up on the web is taking time.

I also have a full time job, which at the moment is taking up my time :( Once I get some free time I will dedicate it to making some more updates to the site.

The Mass Battle system however will work pretty much the same under AFF 2nd Ed as I see it. There will need to be a few tweaks to account for and make use of the extra primary stats. Other than that I quite like its simplicity for controlling mass table top war games within a campaign.

It's just there was a record of a rush of updates, then...silence.

Also, I haven't got the books *cough, allansia, cough* so I'd like to know, will you be putting up full rules or just 'use the normal rules, but with these adjustments'?

Staff and club special skills don't exist, even though they're mentioned on the race and class page. I know there's an other weapon special skill, but for the sake of completeness...

Also, shouldn't you have a Rain of Knives spell? (See Creature of Havoc, page 20: 'the 'demonic three'...cut down their teacher with a carefully disguised Rain of Knives spell.

Hi Pi4t,

Ill try to answer your questions as best I can.

"It's just there was a record of a rush of updates, then...silence."

Aye, this is the nature of doing a "hobby" with a full time job and family. I am a teacher, and I put this site up in my summer holidays. I set aside a week with Adam and we literally lived together that week, working on the site all week, getting as much up as possible.

Then the new school term started and im back into full teaching mode, I have to give my first priority to my job and the kids I teach :) My hobby has to come second :) It has not been forgotten or ditched, but until Adam and I can get another block of free time updates will be hold, we still have a lot to put up there.

"Also, I haven't got the books *cough, allansia, cough* so I'd like to know, will you be putting up full rules or just 'use the normal rules, but with these adjustments'?"

I don't think I would be to comfortable with doing that :( It was a thought I had, but those books are not our work, they are copy righted materials, as are the concepts. Even putting up all that I have is a little dogey, I just hope as I have put it up as a "fan site" with a no-profit situation will make it fine. But I am pretty sure the publishers would take offense to someone posting a whole electronic version of their original game rules :(

All this said as you can see we are exstensivley re-written many rules, and where we do we provide full details, not just the "new bits and changes".

"Also, shouldn't you have a Rain of Knives spell? (See Creature of Havoc, page 20: 'the 'demonic three'...cut down their teacher with a carefully disguised Rain of Knives spell."

Sure :) I can be added. I will be hounest though, I have not gone through every FF book to check for new unique spells and then incorporated them into AFF 2nd Ed. But always willing to add new stuff if its cannon in published print!

On the downloads page, the second edition GM cheat sheet actually downloads the original hero stats summary sheet!

To be honest i think some spells, the rain of knives included, are better left vague and uncertain. With the rain of knives as an example, since it is meant to have been created by three of the worlds most powerful and most evil magicians to kill another deeply powerful servant of evil (Therefore it must have been pretty powerful and pretty grisly) it would seem, to me at least, a little anticlimatic to have a 'rain of knives' spell included, with a simple 'stamina cost' next to it, allowing any old player to wield it.

...it's actually a will cost, and it has evil priest spells. After all, the list is for the enemies too :) (see personalise spell: "As you might expect, serious Bad Guys use spells like this all the time in order to enhance their image and reputation." Bad Guys use the spell list too)
