Ulysses, how long is your next book going to be? I noticed by one of your previous posts that your well into the 200's, and was wondering how much farther you've still got to go.
It will be ~500 refs long. I've written about 450, so the writing will be finished soonish. It's quite a complex book, so it will take a while to check and then I will invite an editor to have a look and give feedback. That whole process will probably take 2 - 3 months. Then I will email the gamebook to the webmaster, who will adapt it for online play if he wants to and when he can. I would reasonably expect that you will see an online verision before 2012 :)
Sounds great. I look forward to playing it. Regarding the sphere, I wasn't able to figure it out at all, but that might have something to do with the fact that (A) I'm nearly blind and use a screen reader, and (B) I've never been able to get that kind of thing in the first place. I was hoping it might be solved just by having the slider puzzle with me, but no luck.
You mean "an image of an 3 by 3 grid with a 2 in the upper right corner and a 1 in the centre square of the bottom row"? Well, I did with some use of pencil and paper
Did you solve it in the story, or just work it out later?
I ask because there are consequences in the later episodes if you solved the puzzle or not, so I am curious as to how many people will actually see the alternate storyline. When I wrote The Diamond Key I made the mistake of creating several areas and storylines which I believe only a slender minority of people ever found. For example, it's possible to obtain 2 Diamond Keys. Did anyone ever have 2...?
Only when I was reading through the word version. I did, however, manage to find the (guy with the rat). I can never spell that word, and my spell checker doesn't work in these input boxes.
Can someone give me a hint as to which item I need to solve the middle path in midnight deep? I know it was somewhere in one of the earlier pages, but really don't want to spend all the time it would take to find it.
And also found a way to obtain two Diamond Keys - so I don't think it was a mistake to create these sideways - on the contrary it creates atmosphere of a big world and a freedom of choices. By the way, when do you plan to publish next story from the Diamond key series - I am looking for it with great anticipation
Just a quick question for the webaster. I was wondering if you could keep all of the books in the WWGB series together? I've noticed that they're spread throughout both the main list and the "more" page.
Fundamentally, the gamebooks go in chronological order. This is pretty close to what you want though : http://www.ffproject.com/gby12.htm.
Pages on this website no longer expand out to full monitor width. Is this intentional?
Yes it is. I felt that it was just too wide, even on a laptop screen. The basic design of the site has not changed for several years, while at the same time monitors have been getting bigger and bigger. As the point of the site is gamebook simulation, it seems to me that the text ought to appear in a more book-like shape (tall rather than wide).
