I've encountered what I assume is a programming bug.
Halfway through the adventure, the "USE" button disappears from below my inventory. This makes doing things like
SPOILER
finding the hidden locker
END SPOILER
impossible!
I have continued into the Golden Crate from the previous installments, if that makes any difference.
I've fixed it now. The USE button is meant to disappear at that point (to stop you switching weapons) but it now returns immediately after the DOG-BOT fight. Thanks for pointing this out.

Always around the holidays I end up revisiting one of the game books posted here (I've played through them all at some point, haha)- usually "A Midwinter Carol" due to it being so relevant and fitting for Christmas, but this year I revisited "Outsider!". Such a great storyline that's so engaging, I'm replaying it again after a while and discovering new side stories. Gavin Mitchell is very talented! Anyway if I don't get a chance later, Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to all!
Gavin Mitchell has kindly sent me another gamebook that he has written, I've added it to the downloads page. In this you are a middle aged man seeking respite at a heavy metal festival.
You are Severian, only son of the master necromancer of this castle. Growing up schooled by Liches, you showed more interest in the weapon practice you received at the withered hands of armour-clad Wights. At last your father good naturedly confesses defeat and tells you to follow your dream. Taking some adventuring supplies and plenty of money, you head off to the most advanced and populous city in the region... Altgarten.
Finally I've got the online version of Gavin Mitchell's sequel to Outsider! ready to play.
I feel I should manage expectations a little: this shouldn't in itself be compared to Outsider! as it is only small, if comparisons are drawn it should be with a single mission from Outsider!. Also, the rules are pretty much standard FF, rather than the complicated system described in the original. As ever, this is down to the amount of time it would take to make it happen.
I just was playing "Outsider!" yesterday, what a nice coincidence this is about to go up! I will be reading it with an open mind, and no prior expectations compared to Gavin's previous wonderful work- but even if it is a quarter as good I am sure I will enjoy it! Let the adventure begin.

Don't panic, I was just making a statement, using a line from one of my favourite TV series. I was so taken with it I'll use it upon point of death (whenever that might be) if possible. Anyway, hope everyone is having a nice Xmas/Yuletide/Locking holiday and here's to a prosperous New Year.
