I wouldn't want to sink to the depths of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber inasmuch as blaming the public for the failure of Love Never Dies. However, I do get the impression that Outsider has been over praised and New Day Rising over bashed, as Kevin Smith said of Clerks and Mallrats. All Fighting Fantasy characters had randomised stats and the ones in NDR were no different -- Jori complies with the Sorcery! standard SKILL stat for a wizard even. And if your STAMINA decreases while the enemy's stays the same, it means you're losing the Attack Rounds. In any case, the announcement of Alestorm at Bloodstock does rather incline me to write Day in the Life II instead.
The reason your stamina decreases while the enemy's doesn't always is because during attack rounds if you don't roll a higher attack number than your enemy, your stamina decreases. If you roll an equal number to the enemy's attack, it remains the same, while a greater number will decrease the enemy's by 2 or higher, depending on what weapon you have. I assume you've played these games before but wanted to let you know in case you hadn't. Also, on to Mission 2!
Thanks but, mission 2? The one review above was sufficiently above as to briefly make me consider quitting altogether. This was only a brief thought, I would still consider continuing on its own merits, but I've not written anything for a long time and my circumstances have changed permanently. Perhaps I might write again one day.

I wasn't really sure where to post this or if I should be using the contact link instead of the guestbook, so if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me or just ignore. I'm wondering if it would be possible to get an ssl cert running on the site? They're free now (with let's encrypt), but I'm not sure how the specialized software for the gamebooks would handle one. It'd be really nice if possible; I've taken to typing https as the prefix to any address, and its always a little alarming when firefox says a site is insecure.
Mother of all demons, LILLITH offers you a bargain. for the small price of your soul would you resurrect your mother, or buy yourself the friendship of local up and coming goth metal G-TYPE?

@ Gavin,
My Mother is, thankfully, still alive - besides which, I'm sure she wouldn't want to return to the Earthly Plane, resurrected or reincarnated or incorporeal state. Been there, done that, move on to the next level of existence. As for the Gothic friendship, not sure what a G-Type is, and Goths are continually fatalistic so they wouldn't make good conversation. If it's nothing I can't (and should) earn for myself, then I've no wishes to be granted.
It was a sharp, short adventure and I liked the banter with the dragons. The comparisons to Outsider are unfair, this book is just fine on its own merits. Also chuckled when:
SPOILER
The death at Deacon's hands indicated I might have lived if there had been a healer/resurrector. I promply got the Rev and Deacon my next walkthrough, and he blew everything up!
END SPOILER
Could have been a bit longer or fleshed out, but I did enjoy the character designs - especially Jori, Shira and the black dragon - and the protagonist is interesting as an ex-necromancer as well. Would enjoy seeing a follow up with the same cast.
The randomness didn't seem too unfair or egregious, and freshened up the combat some.
The friendship of a goth metal band I invented would seem an odd price for a soul in real life.
I might change their name to R Type though.

I wouldn't want to give my soul for the friendship of any band. It's a waste of time pursuing friendship if it's not freely given. Hopefully, people should just click, that's it. If not, then move on. I watch these films and it's cringe-worthy the protagonist does all they can to join some kind of 'exclusive social club' - Jocks or spoilt rich kids - looking down their nose at everyone else. And I don't believe in all that 'love at first sight' nonsense. at first sight, yes.
One interesting scene was in 'Rebel Without a Cause'. During a 'Taurus the Bull' scene in the planetarium, Jim Stark (James Dean) portrayed a hopeful, playful grin, then a deflated disappointment, finally ending with a shrug when realizing the high school gang didn't take to his humour. They were at first shocked by his spontaneous bull's bellow, then muttered a few insults to the newcomer. As the film progresses, it becomes clear that Jim's earlier attempt to socialize was somewhat misplaced and his association with troubled loner 'Plato' proved more sensible. This was the first teen angst, coming-of-age movie of its kind, where youngsters struggle to find their place in life. AttractionAttraction
To quote time immemorial however, there wouldn't be a film then. Ie without the protagonist having some contrived reason to sell their soul, I have no book.
