I think the Cretean Chronicles trilogy were also pretty good. Quite educational too, when it comes to Greek mythology. Who's read those?

Cretan Chronicles were excellent, I thought. Pretty innovative with the "taking a hint" system, Honor / Shame, and choosing a patron deity.

I've read Cretan Chronicles and quite enjoyed them. There were some pretty interesting ideas in them, although I felt the last book in the trilogy was a little dissapointing. I liked the honour/shame mechanic too.

Outsider!
I like "Black" Aria Because he Starts as a... Anti-Hero and later in the Gamebook of "The Outsider", He learns things from his Three Pontenial Fathers.. I always Inmagined Him having Long-Blond-Hair and the Emerald eyes his Mother... And the same Black clothing expect the Cloak which i always thought it would have Sleeves but then Again I always think having a Cloak with no Sleeves looks fine.

I wonder if the Contest is going around this Year.

Outsider!
"Outsider" is monumentally ambitious, and at times truly epic, but suffers from uneven quality and a slight sense that at times the author is a little bored completing his self-imposed quest to write the longest-gamebook-ever. It also has a slight element of cliche storm, although the occasional humour helps. It's very, very good, but for my money, not up there with the best of the best.

Outsider!
The Diamond Key is huge, but much of the content is there to handle the very complex mechnics, nuances (e.g. which objects you picked up, whether you met someone) and non-linear narratives. In other words, it's rich and complex, but a single play-through doesn't take that long- although you want to play it again and again to pick up the other possibilities.

Outsider, on the other hand, is basically very linear and takes ages and ages to play through once. And once you've done it, there's not that much incentive to play again, and kill the same Lich, the same Nightshade Phantom etc. etc.

That's why although I think Outsider is great, I prefer TDK.

In the absence of any other discussions at the moment, what do people think about the suggestion that this Guestbook has the entires in reverse order (most recent at the top)? The benefit is that you don't have to scroll down, but then it could create confusion (might need an entry number along with the date-time stamp).
Alternatively, the most recent entry (or all entries within the past 12 or 24 hours) could be in a special box at the top.
Or it could just stay as it is...
All good suggestions. I prefer to keep the default display as it is, but there's certainly room for adding extra options. Most of all I like the sound of the 'all entries within...' idea, which I envisage as an extra choice at the top of the page (after 'first' and 'last').

I don't think adding the ability to reverse the order would be all that difficult either (although probably not necessary if I do the above).

I like the concept, but the problem I can see people running into is that they wouldn't be able to read the messages as a conversation. This, at least to me, is a major plus for the current setup. I do, however, like the idea of the newest messages at the top, somehow separated from the rest of the guestbook. The only difficulty with this is that it could take a lot of work to create, but I may be entirely wrong seeing as I have no experience creating guestbooks, or even websites in general.

Gamebooks
Just got Howl of the Werewolf and Night of the Necromancer in the mail last night. Great new FF books, highly recommended, anyone else have them? Stormslayer is also the pick of the new editions which I bought a few months, although I didn't care for Bloodbones.

Howl of the Werewolf was recently voted the best Fighting Fantasy gamebook by the readers of Fighting Fantazine. I'd have to say that if not the best, it's definitely in the top three or so.

I don't know about Night of the Necromancer or Stormslayer but I would class Howl of the Werewolf as one of the best FF gamebooks ever. There may be a better gamebook but if there is I haven't read it.

Speaking of soul tracker, have you ever considered writing a short story and/or a novel; you've certainly got the nack for it! One of these days I'm going to get around to playing through soul tracker and copying the sections into a file and turning it into a book for myself.

The Diamond Key
Just discovered there is an entry for The Diamond Key on Titannica. Makes me feel kinda famous. My other books don't have entries, but I feel like to create content there about any of my own works would be conceited...

P.S. And thanks to Gallicus for all his effort.

Thanks, John. I've done some creative writing, but mostly interactive fiction. I'm getting set to write another book for http://www.gamebookadventures.com
