Hi!

I just wanted to know wherther any other girls play fighting fantasy except me and my sister! Anyone?

I've completed the book The house of hell twice, but The house of horror is really hard. I've only just found this site, but i think its gr8!

Bodies In The Docks
I think that 'Bodies in the Docks' needs to be more balanced. Encountering 2 'Deep Ones' at Sk: 10 St: 24 and Sk:9 St: 28 means fighting simultaneously against two creatures either one of whom would be stronger than the average PC. This comes immediately after fighting two cultists . . . what's the point in this? Just to kill the player? If I wanted a game that relied entirely on dice rolls I would play Ludo.

I agree. If there's no way past them or no way to weaken them, then it is completely ridiculous!

Site Update

I've added Bodies In The Docks to the Downloads page.

As Hugh Eldred-Grigg's website, The Realms of Shabak seems to have disappeared, I've removed the links to it. If it ever returns, I'll restore them.

Bodies In The Docks
Hey, great site!

I loved the setting and style (not to mention the skill choosing part) of "bodies in the docks", and have just played some of hellfire. Im now wondering if there are another gamebooks done by the same author of Bodies in the docks or similiar ones i can find.
The good news is that Simon Osborne is working on a sequel to Bodies In The Docks.

Many years ago, he also wrote a gamebook called Curse Of The Yeti which can be found on the downloads page. Be aware, though, that this is not representative of his later writing, and doesn't have anything in common with Bodies In The Docks.

As for similar gamebooks, I don't know the answer. I suggest asking at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gamebooks.

Phil Sadler's sequel to Hellfire can now be found on the Downloads page. There may eventually be an online version, time permitting.

Riders Of The Yeti

An updated version of Riders Of The Storm, in which a minor mistake has been corrected, is now available on the Downloads page.

Also added is Simon Osborne's very early work, Curse Of The Yeti.

Riders Of The Storm
Another bug I'm afraid, although this one is rather amusing. I was fighting the Trinitour in Riders of the Storm, and every time he hit me I would gain one stamina point! Although this wonderful effect took me all the way from just 3 Stamina to 29, it can't possibly be intentional.

Got it. Thanks once again.

Outsider!
In the weapons room in Outsider, when I choose the mace, the screen is filled with 1s and 0s.
Yes, that was an odd one. I fixed that a few days ago, and I've just checked that it's stayed fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.

Just a small thing but I think paragraph 15 in Bodies In The Docks has a "who's" that should be a "whose".
You're right. I have now corrected it. Thanks.

Hi, I've just finished Bodies In The Docks. (On my first go, albeit I was lucky to get Skill 12 and even so I only had 1 Stamina at the end!)
Anyway, I was just wondering: You know how Lair Of The Troglodytes has several endings, ranging from kinda-ok to "Go me!"? Do any of the other adventures have multiple endings?
Outsider has about half a dozen fairly positive endings, but only one (or maybe two) 'best' ending(s) which are well worth tracking down. Incidentally, dying in the sewer many years later is not one of the 'best' endings.

And "Killed by a dragon." and "Killed by a manticore." do not count as different endings, before some smart-alec points it out! :-)

House Of Horror
Hi again. I've just arrived at Section 23 of House Of Horror. One of the options available is "Use the set of lock-picks", but I have not found a set of lock-picks.
This one isn't a bug, as you may since have discovered.

Hi there. I've just been thinking about the rules for fighting more than one opponent - are you supposed to roll two separate Attack Strengths for yourself in each round (one for each monster)? Unfortunately I don't have an original gamebook to hand so I cannot check (and could be wrong).
I don't have a gamebook to hand either, but I've looked around the amateur ones and there are examples of both interpretations.

As well as changing the colours around, I've added (by kind permission of the author) the GAVIN MITCHELL EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW! originally posted on the Yahoo Gamebooks group.

any word on simone osborne's sequel to "bodies in the docks"? or any new gamebooks written by him? (ive read curse of the yeti).

also does Gavin mitchell have any other gamebooks besides outsider?
No news on the Bodies In The Docks sequel. Gavin Mitchell has written no other gamebooks to my knowledge. He did make a start on one - Afterlife - but it doesn't look like this will ever be completed.
