A few too many instant deaths means that you need luck, persistence and memorisation to win this one. I liked the old-school feeling, however, and some unresolved mysteries still draw me towards the mansion... From a mechanistic viewpoint, Fear would be better if it worked similarly to Luck instead of being merely "hit points". |

I don't know how many attempts it took, but I finally stand triumphant - and I even took a wrong turn from what I had planned on my final run. It was hard yet felt fair all the time. This adventure was excellent. I applaud the writer for catching that special something that was in the original fighting fantasy books. And I do not say this lightly: many of the stories on this site are fun but most do not get anywhere near that special feeling. For a moment I was back in the depths of Firetop mountain. Thank you for taking me back there. |

Just found a 13-year old bug in this game: the boss of the adventure says to his body guard "Deal with him Aramas." But in my books the character is always gender-less! Oh, by the way, 'Aramas' is Samara backwards: guess where I got that name from. |

That was tough. Finding the most suggestible path, and bringing the right things along, took several tries. The near-end deaths are annoyingly lovable as always. Plot is awesome. Choice options are clever. A very good, high quality, game book. Grade: 99 |
