Just found and corrected a few small errors and have sent the details to Andy:
Desert Lizard Man had no stamina (should have been 8) Giant Spider skill 7 (used to be 6) Sword Tree's stamina up from 9 to 12 Tangle-weed 7/6 down from 8/13 Tyrannosaurus 12/12 to Tyrannosaurus (Young)
Nothing game-breaking (well I'm not too sure about that naughty Desert Lizard Man, but the odds of meeting him or any of those others are about 500-1). |

The updated version is there now. |

Sharkbait's Revenge
|
Well, it took several tries but I finally did it. The intricacy of what you could do to win was cool. The scarce battles were good, and the choice heavy gameplay was great. I will return at some point to find the other ending and challenges in of Your Teeth completed]. Until then, perfect degree of annoying difficulty. Grade: 97 |

Tomb Of The Ancients
|
An oddly quick yet satisfying game. The battles could be overly easy with some lucky dice rolls. The gameplay and need to find certain things was well moderated. Some more backstory would be OK, but not essential. Great plot twist at the end. Grade: 96 |

A Midwinter Carol
|
This was OK. The adaption of A Christmas Carol was unoriginal, which has been said, but still required some creativity. The logic of what you had to do didn't make much sense. The choices were good, but the battles could have been much better. I'm being generous on this grade for kindness reasons. Grade: 83 |

Night Owl by Gerry Rafferty. Lyrics say it all, really. Also, Stranger by ELO hits the nail on the head. I'm going to have a collection of my fave songs played at my funeral wake (where they have the food, drink, conversation). |

Short, and sweet. Nice domestic twist on an expected dungeon crawl. :) |

Im trying to map the house but it's not going well. Ive completed the game but i'd love a layout plan of the house. |

Waiting For The Light

This book is weird. Having played several times and not found the "winning" ending, I'm moving on to other games. I'll return later to try again. All-decision games are usually OK, but with little plot and clarity on what is correct, it becomes annoying. The writing is good, with clever mini-stories. But this is too tough. More plot or clues towards the correct solution would help. Grade: 90 |

Garden Of Bones

A good quick game. I literally completed this during school out of boredom, without maping. It was good. Quality plot, skilled execution, and variety of choices in how to win. I'm hoping I missed a insta-death near the end, because those are always a nice touch. Very good though. Grade: 99 |

I'd suggest downloading the printed version of the adventure. Much easier to map when you have the entire story at your fingertips. |

New Day Rising
|
New Day Rising looks amazing. Will it be ported to the site? |
|
Very likely. However, implementing the combat system as described (it features multiple allies each with their own special abilities) would represent an unfeasibly large amount of work. At the moment I'm leaning towards making a version with close to standard FF rules. |

Tales From The Bird Islands Development

Hi all. Thanks for the responses and sorry it's taken so long to reply. I will try and look up these programs when I have the chance, but I've also found some valuable hints and tips on the subject of not only writing but also jumbling up the references, mainly from a blog from Jonathon Green (I'm sure you've heard of him) and another American author who wrote another type of game book that seems similar (can't remember his name :-( ). I'll first attempt to just copy and pasting and keeping lots and lots of notes, hopefully that will suffice! I can only apologies for how long it is taking, I just hope it is worthy and workable once I submit it/them (fingers crossed). While I'm here I'll mention that I've played through a few islands recently (to get back into the swing of things), mainly the debacle at dead man's inn and the follow up games - but also others - and found a few things that seem a little strange? I'm not trying to point out faults - well I am, but for a good cause - I'll post them in a spoiler alert when I have the time. Peace to all, and I love this site! |
|
Thanks very much, good to hear that you're still working on it. Regarding the strange things, if you think you have found any bugs, could you email me the URL, or alternatively paste it into a guestbook message? |

New Day Rising

Wonderful. Thank you for yours and Gavin's hard work. Hope it will still have the allies!
To me, Outsider! is one of the best FF books, period. |
|
It's the allies that are the main problem technically. Obviously they will remain in the story, but for fighting they'll all be rolled into a single entity with one set of SKILL and STAMINA. It will be a bit like Eddora in Outsider! |

Thanks for the positive feedback, I have started the next incoherent adventure / mission though have yet to catch my stride with it. That said I needed a break after writing the first one directly following the other unpleasantness. |

Hi, I haven't read many of these online gamebooks and I didn't get very far with yours but it's the best one I've read so far. My only slight issue is that there seem to be too many instances of gaining Fear points, making it in my view just a tad too difficult |

@ Hugh
Glad you're enjoying the adventure! There are lots of areas to explore and many deadly areas that will add a lot of fear points, definitely.
The true path, however, will enable any player to successfully complete the adventure, no matter how low their starting skill, stamina, luck or fear scores may be.
Good luck! |
